Our home, Burh Becc, is a “Living Building,” certified by the International Living Future Institute.
The Living Building ChallengeTM is a green building certification program that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today and acts to diminish the gap between current limits and ideal solutions.
The Challenge comprises seven performance areas, or “Petals,” with a total of 20 imperatives, several in each Petal category. All imperatives must be met for full “Living” certification. All certification is based on actual rather than projected performance, with a one-year audit period to measure performance. The seven Petals are as follows:
